Systems Engineering

Students interested in pursuing this track are required to take a collection of 4 common courses. In addition, they must complete a final report, which provides a critical analysis of a topic that is appropriate to the plan of study and is subject to approval by the advisory committee. It is expected that students will spend about 1/3 efforts spent for a regular 3 credit course for the final report.

Prerequisite:

Required courses: 12 CH
Modeling Electives: 6 CH
Management Elective: 3 CH
Final Report: 1 CH
Electives: 9 CH

Total

31 CH

Calculus-based introductory probability and statistics course, such as: UA: SIE 305 or SIE 500a or ASU: ECE 380
An introductory linear programming course, such as: UA: SIE 340 or SIE 500c

Required Courses:

UA

SIE 530*: Engineering Statistics (video, web)
SIE 554a: Concurrent Engineering and System Design (video)
SIE 654: Advanced Concepts in Systems Engineering (video)
SIE 550: Linear Systems Theory (video, web+)

* SIE 530 satisfies the Engineering Math Requirement
+ Currently under development for web development

Students must select at least two of the following modeling electives (at most one from any line):

UA

ASU

SIE 531: Simulation Modeling and Analysis IEE 545: Simulating Stochastic Systems

SIE 543: Game Theory (web)

Students must select at least one additional management course, such as:

UA

ASU

NAU

ENGR 565: Financial Management for Engineers IEE 571: Quality Management EGR 681: Project Operations
IEE 552: Strategic Technology Management (web) EGR 686: Managing Engineering Design

All students are required to complete a “Final Paper” (1CH). This paper must be appropriate to the student’s plan of study, and is subject to the approval of the student’s advisory committee.

Suggested Elective Courses: In the following, at most one course may be taken from any line.
